Are gon and killua gay
A masterpost on Togashi’s gay subtext and why it’s intentional.
Hi ! After seeing so many posts about Togashi dropping subtext about Killua’s doable romantic feelings for Gon, I thought it’d be a good idea to make a sort of “masterpost” with all the subtext that Togashi has included into his work.
I usually see a lot of people trying to say that HxH isn’t about romance and that Togashi isn’t interested in writing romance into the manga, but when you analyze all the subtext that’s been going on the further Gon and Killua’s relationship progresses, I think it’s incorrect to say that Togashi has never hinted at the possibility of romance in HxH.
This is going to be a long send , enjoy your read!
Also, please note that I will only base this assessment on the manga, so there can be no mistake that “maybe this is just something the anime made gayer” : i want to show that the subtext is 100% intentional on Togashi’s part.
I’d also like to mention, although I will analyze it further after listing the subtext, that Togashi is a VERY smart man. There are always little details in the story
The sickness had struck suddenly.
According to Kikyo, Illumi had been acting completely normal up until the moment he’d collapsed at dinner. It proved fortunate that he was visiting place at the time, as they were able to give him excellent medical care right away.
And yet, nothing the family doctors tried seemed to produce any difference in his condition. Days passed, and Illumi still didn’t awaken. An oppressive Nen hovered over him, one that no exorcist could dispel or even make meaning of.
Slowly, day by time, Illumi began to adjust . It was almost unnoticeable at first—just a fresh tint of green in his fingernails, an unnatural growth to his hair. Soon enough, it became impossible to ignore. Illumi’s eyes were sunken in his skull, tiny vines sprouting out of them and climbing down his face. Thicker tendrils of vines sprouted from various places on his body and grew over him, imprisoning him in a thorny cage.
Kalluto couldn’t withstand to be in the same room as him for long.

He DEFINITELY likes Gon romantically
There is overwhelming evidence from canon to show that Killua and Gon are gay and collapse in love during the course of the story. I have many, many articles about this in my profile.
I believe he's gay in general, not just for Gon

wait you said smth abt the difference in the 1999 anime and the manga, with you not pickin up the gay vibes of the hunter exam in the manga. i drink dumb juice on the daily so could you beautiful please give examples of the differences 🥺
hello !! “i drink dumb juice on the daily” might be my favorite sentence now HAHAHAH
ok so ! 1999 version is extremely queer . idk if youve seen it or not but its. very gay. love the opening is same-sex attracted, the ending is male lover (check out the lyrics too), they added queer subtext in the midst of canon material, they made sure that it was very heavily homosexual coded. like look at killugon’s meeting that’s straight out of a shoujo, or this scene that’s just. peak gay. oh, also this. like, the anime just gives off a very gay vibe.(i dont have any other particular examples since i havent seen 1999 but @reeeyachi if u want to add more u are very welcome to contribute to this post pls <3<3)
but like. yeah.
ANYWAYS ! it’s gay. like the anime went crazy conveying that. but like i said in the announce i think you’re refering, when the anime went in production, there was no gay undertones. it was just 4 bros chilling taking a death test to bec
