LGBTQ+ issues have, at times, been a flashpoint in the 2024 election.
Many Republicans have campaigned on restricting gender-affirming protect , banning classroom direction of sexual orientation and gender persona and speaking out against transgender girls playing in women's sports.
Democrats have expressed more vocal sustain for LGBTQ+ issues.
Here's a brief glance at where the major candidates endure on the issue.
Kamala Harris
Harris has drawn-out been an outspoken advocate for homosexual marriage, officiating some of the nation's first same-sex marriage ceremonies as district attorney in San Francisco. As vice president, she supported the Respect for Marriage Act, a landmark piece of bipartisan legislation to protect same-sex and interracial marriages.

BERLIN - For many LGBTQ+ Germans, this month's elections are no longer about winning unused rights; the best-case scenario now is just to hang on to any hard-won gains and confirm life doesn't get worse.
"They're talking about revoking the trans self-determination law only three months after it entered into force. It's absurd," said Jojo Ludwig, a social media originator who last year was legally recognised as genderqueer - neither male nor female.
Ludwig, 26, is one of thousands of transgender Germans who have changed, or applied to convert, gender and name under new self-ID laws, simply by declaring the switch at a local registry.

U.S. President Donald Trump has used his first six months in office to enact multiple policies impacting the lives of Queer Americans in areas enjoy healthcare, legal recognition and education.
On July 17, the government ended the nation's specialised mental health services for LGBTQ+ youth through the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, with the White House describing it as a service where "children are encouraged to embrace radical gender ideology".
The administration also filed a lawsuit against California this month over state policies that allow transgender female athletes to compete in girls' categories of educational facility sports.
But rights groups are fighting back. Nine Queer and HIV-related organisations possess had more than $6 million in funding restored following a lawsuit against three of Trump's executive orders.

To help unpack the election results, the Williams Institute at UCLA School of Rule, a leading research center on sexual orientation and gender identity, hosted a webinar exploring how laws and policies related to the LGBTQ+ community may fare under the incoming Trump administration.
The Nov. 15 event, “The 2024 Election: The Future of Democracy and LGBTQ Rights,” featured the institute’s federal policy director Elana Redfield, faculty director Cary Franklin and visiting scholar Andrew Flores. They were joined by former Oklahoma state Rep. Mauree Turner, New Hampshire state Rep. Alissandra Rodriguez Murray and former candidate for Wisconsin Senate Andi Rich.

What is Project 2025?
