What Does LGBTQIA2+ Mean & Its Importance?

The LGBTQIA2+ community, also known as the Rainbow community, are people who are allied with the LGBTQIA2+ movement or spot as an lesbian, queer , transgender, etc. People from the LGBTQIA2+ community approach in from all walks of life and involve people of all races and ethnicities, all ages, all socioeconomic statuses, and from all parts of the country. To interruption it down some more, LGBTQIA2+ is an abbreviation that stands for: queer woman , gay, bisexual, transgender, homosexual (or sometimes questioning), intersexual, asexual and two-spirited. The plus-sign signifies a number of other identities, and is included to retain the abbreviation brief when written out; the occupied abbreviation is LGBTTTQQIAA. The primary reason why the LGBTQIA2+ communtiy and pronouns matter is because it creates a positive impact on mental health, heartfelt well-being and quality of life for those a part or allied with the group.

What Does the 2 in LGBTQ2 Stand For?

Have you ever asked yourself what some of the letters in LGBTQ2 (actually) stand for? Yes? Then you are not alone! Broader gender non-conforming communities are constantly productive on their “visible inclusiveness” by adding letters to the LGBT acronym and it can be rigid to keep up. We are taking the opportunity in PRIDE MONTH to decode some of it:

L-esbian,

G-ay,

B-isexual,

T-ransgender,

Q-ueer.

Sometimes I for Intersex, and A for Asexual are included. To be even more inclusive, the acronym is sometimes finished off with a +. The plus represents all members of the community that have not been specifically mentioned. These may include pansexual or nonbinary people.

In North America and especially in Canada, we will sometimes find a number in the acronym. When I moved to Canada, I was curious to locate out what the 2 stands for. I, learned that it means: two-spirit.

Two-spirit is an umbrella word that is used nowadays as a self-description by, or reference to, some Native (North) American or First Nations people, who form a third gender in their community.

En décembre 2021, LGBTQ2+ Vaudreuil-Soulanges a lancé son premier programme, une rencontre hebdomadaire pour les jeunes LGBTQ2+ (âgés de 13 à 20 ans). Actuellement, les réunions se déroulent sur Zoom, mais nous espérons commencer à incorporer des réunions en personne dans un avenir proche.

Contexte / Le pourquoi :

Avec un territoire s'étendant sur 23 municipalités et une population grandissante, Vaudreuil-Soulanges voit une demande croissante de services communautaires diversifiés pour soutenir sa population. Il est important que ces types de services existent localement, car de nombreux résidents de Vaudreuil-Soulanges, un territoire situé à l'ouest de Montréal, n'ont pas facilement accès aux services présents dans le centre urbain de Montréal. Il est également vital que ces services soient conçus de manière à prendre en compte le profil démographique et géographique unique de Vaudreuil-Soulanges, y compris la langue, l'âge et les points de contact.

The human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual person, transgender, queer, 2-spirit and intersex persons

Canada stands up for the protection and promotion of the human rights of lesbian, gay, pansexual, transgender, queer, 2-spirit and intersex (LGBTQ2I) people globally.

The human rights of all persons are universal and indivisible. Everyone should enjoy the same fundamental human rights, regardless of their sexual orientation and their gender identity and expression.

Article 1 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights declares that “all human beings are born free and same in dignity and rights.” Article 2 declares, “Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration.” All people, including LGBTQ2I individuals, are entitled to love the protection provided by international human rights law, which is based on equality and non-discrimination.

Nearly 30 countries, including Canada, recognize gay marriage. By contrast, more than 70 countries still criminalize consensual same-sex manner. This includes 6 countries that effectively impose the death penalty on consensual same-sex sexual acts. In 6 other countries, the death penalt lgbtq 2
