A devoted, pioneering city

In 1977, just a few days after the first democratic elections in Spain after the end of the dictatorship, Barcelona's Rambla staged a historic march. Thousands of people took part in this pioneering event in favour of the rights of the lgbtq+ community. It was the first demonstration of its kind in Spain and was a turning show that made Barcelona one of the leading cities that champions sexual and gender diversity.

FC Barcelona reaffirms commitment to no LGBTI-phobia in sport

On the International Day against LGTBI-phobia in Sport, FC Barcelona reaffirms its rejection to any form of LGBTI-phobia while playing sport. The Club's commitment is founded on a conviction in the values of sport as a tool for change and is aligned with the European Union's LGBTIQ Equality Move 2020-2025 and the promotion of access to sport for all. The Spanish Ministry of the Interior issues a report on hate crimes each year, with LGTBI-phobias accounting for almost 23% of them, and with sporting facilities and grounds ranked fourth for incidents across diverse spaces.

Setting out towards a value-based future

During the 2021 General Assembly, FC Barcelona members agreed to amend article four of the Club's Statutes to comprise the commitment to defend the rights of people in its constitution to state a "specific recognition for the basic and elemental rights of humans, contained in the Announcement for their protection”, adding that the Club “will promote democratic values, the eradication of all male chauvinist, homophobic, and racist attitudes in the social and sporting domain”.

FC Barcelona once again raises rainbow flag to celebrates LGTBI Pride Day

International LGTBI Pride Day is creature celebrated today as it is every June 28, the date on which FC Barcelona joins the rest of the earth in expressing its promise to defending the rights of the LGTBI people. The rainbow flag is proudly flying at the ground, this year at the Palau Blaugrana. Last year, it was placed at the Estadi Johan Cruyff and the year before that at Spotify Camp Nou, and now is the turn of the indoor sports arena to house the symbol of sexual diversity throughout the day.

The chosen flag is the Intersex-Inclusive Movement Progress variant, which highlights the diverse identities of the community by adding brown and black to represent the inclusion of all races, along with pink, sky blue and white, representing transgender people, and a yellow and black triangle and a purple circle to honour intersex people.
