The wind down of Self-acceptance Month is actually the tee up of one of the most historic Pride celebrations in the country, taking place in some of Los Angeles' iconic locations.

Cue the tune, the vibes, the bliss that has become synonymous with Pride celebrations and add an incomparable merge of culture, context and community -- and that’s Black Pride in the City of Angels.

"West Hollywood wasn't necessarily always so welcoming, and certainly there was very, very rare or events where you would go and be in the majority," said Patrik-Ian Polk, who has been attending Los Angeles Black Pride for decades. "And, so, what Shadowy Pride gave us was an opportunity to fellowship amongst ourselves like a part of the  majority."

Though you may never hold heard of it, event director Brandon Anthony said, "LA Black pride is actually the very first Black Pride in the country."

Los Angeles Black Lgbtq+ fest has been celebrated Fourth of July weekend since 1988.

"We were not noted when traditional prides were being celebrated, so a group of people in the 80s came together to celebrate us with intention," said Anthony.
