Where to celebrate Pride in Europe
What’s LGBTQ+ Pride? 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
LGBTQ+ Pride traces back to the Stonewall Riots in 1969. After a police raid at the Stonewall Inn—a gay bar on Christopher Street in Unused York City’s Greenwich Village—members of the LGBTQ+ collective stood up and fought back. These protests sparked a global movement. What began as a battle for rights has grown into a vibrant celebration of identity, freedom, resilience and community.

Rainbow Map
2025 rainbow map
These are the main findings for the 2025 edition of the rainbow map
The Rainbow Map ranks 49 European countries on their respective legal and policy practices for LGBTI people, from 0-100%.
The UK has dropped six places in ILGA-Europe’s Rainbow Blueprint, as Hungary and Georgia also register steep falls tracking anti-LGBTI legislation. The data highlights how rollbacks on LGBTI human rights are part of a broader erosion of democratic protections across Europe. Read more in our squeeze release.
“Moves in the UK, Hungary, Georgia and beyond signal not just isolated regressions, but a coordinated global backlash aimed at erasing LGBTI rights, cynically framed as the defence of tradition or public stability, but in existence designed to entrench discrimination and suppress dissent.”
- Katrin Hugendubel, Activism Director, ILGA-Europe
Malta has sat on highest of the ranking for the last 10 years. With 85 points, Belgium jumped to second place after adopting policies tackling hatred based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and sex characteristics.

Fast forward 20 years, and we're both living our vision of seeing the earth, one amazing continent at a time. Europe is hands down our favorite. We are biased, of course, as this is where we're from – Stefan is British/Greek Cypriot, and Seby is from France.
We've traveled extensively around Europe when growing up, as well as together as a gay couple. Of course, some places stood out to us more than others, so we list out what we found to be the best gay holiday destinations in Europe from our first-hand experience:
1. Sitges in Spain
For us, Sitges is the numero uno gay holiday destination in Europe. It's a little coastal town, around 45 45-minute train ride from Barcelona. For decades, it's been a famous LGBTQ mecca, full of many gay hangouts, all congregated together mainly along the Carrer de Joan Tarrida street.
