Gay shazam

[Spoilers for anyone who hasn’t seen Shazam!]

As many reviews have pointed out, including our own, Shazam! is a lot of joy. It’s funny and earnest, and I can’t acquire over how adorable minute Darla is. She is a good sister! Shazam! (this post is filthy with exclamation points) spends a lot of period on the power of family and Billy Batson’s rejection-turned-acceptance of those who care about him, including Darla; family is also how Shazam defeats Dr. Thaddeus Sivana at the Chilladelphia (nice) Winter Festival. To take down the evil doc and his seven deadly sins, Captain Sparklefingers embeds his foster siblings — Freddy, Mary, Eugene, Pedro, and Darla — with the similar superhero powers that he has. Of the kids, Pedro has the least amount to do and say in the motion picture, but he may be a historic character nonetheless.

After Shazam transports his brothers and sisters to the safest place he knows, a Philly strip club, Mary scolds him for taking them somewhere seedy, Darla is upset that she didn’t procure any glitter, and Pedro seems non-plussed by the whole situation. His accurate words: “Not my thing.” It’s a pointed line that could mean

Shazam! Fury of the Gods Writer Confirms a Shazamily Member Is Gay

Shazam Family member Pedro Peña has been confirmed to be lgbtq+ in Shazam! Fury of the Gods by the upcoming DC movie's co-writer, Henry Gayden.

Pedro's sexual orientation was discussed by Gayden -- who also wrote the first Shazam! movie -- in an interview he gave to Dorkaholics alongside his collaborator for the sequel, Chris Morgan. "The only new addition for [Fury of the Gods] is being a lot more forthright about Pedro being gay," Gayden commented. "And that was hinted at in the first movie very subtly. And I thought it was really important and really, really fought for us including that and bringing that to the fore in this movie."

With Shazam 2: Fury of the Gods finally getting its theatrical release, one of the things I was looking forward to was how the story would address Pedro Peña’s queer sexuality after hinting at it during the first Shazam movie from 2019.

This article of Shazam 2: Fury of the Gods contains minor spoilers. Proceed with caution!

Due to the first Shazam film and the sequel creature considered family films, even though they still main attraction some very dark elements, there’s only so much the creative team can do when it comes to exploring a character’s queer sexuality. Pedro Peña was hinted to be gay during the first film. So, how did Shazam 2 fare? Adv, in a sense, I think it gave me more than I expected.

We get to see that Pedro’s queer quite premature in the movie. There’s a scene at the Vásquez house with everyone doing their own thing. Pedro (the younger version being played by Jovan Armand and the superhero version by D.J. Cotrona) is seen sitting in front of the TV with his foster mother while a sports game is playing. Pedro’s not interested in sports, but he sure is very interested in the picture of a half-naked baseball player featured in a sports underwear ad.

The much awaited premiere of ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ is almost here, and writers Henry Gayden and Chris Morgan recently opened up about the LGBTQ+ representation in the upcoming superhero film.

The male lover character in the sequel is Pedro Peña, who is portrayed by actors Jovan Armand and D.J. Cotrona.

“The only new addition for this movie is being a lot more forthright about Pedro entity gay. And that was hinted at in the first movie very subtly,” Gayden shared in an interview with Dorkacholics.

He further explained the importance of representation in the upcoming movie, expressing:

“And I consideration it was really key and really, really fought for us including that and bringing that to the fore in this movie.”

The screenwriter was referring to the first film’s scene wherein the Shazam kids are transported to a strip club, and Pedro says that it’s “not [his] thing.” And after the subtle hint in 2019’s
‘Shazam!,’ the sequel is expected to address the matter directly, as per Gayden’s statement.

Aside from the Gay representation, the disability voice with Freddy, portrayed
