Christopher Street West, the nonprofit that organizes the LA Pride Parade and Festival, issued a letter to the West Hollywood Municipality Council declaring its intent to shift its 2021 Identity festival events out of the city and into a recent location in Los Angeles.

The first LA Pride celebration was organized in downtown Los Angeles in 1970, and after that, LA Lgbtq+ fest was moved to West Hollywood, where it has been held for the past 49 years. In the letter, CSW said its board of directors made the choice based on several reasons including construction at West Hollywood Park, the altering demographics of greater Los Angeles, CSW’s commitment to organism responsive to LGBTQIA+ community needs and its alliance and collaboration with other movements for social change.

“This has been an ongoing conversation within our company for the past year given how large the celebrations have become,” CSW Executive Director Madonna Cacciatore wrote in an email. “While we are still in a phase of gathering feedback

While details of LA Pride have not been announced, one previous participant will not be returning to its Parade Parade on June 8. The city of West Hollywood, which will host its own Pride celebration the previous week, has opted instead to transmit a delegation to Nature Pride, which will be held in Washington, D.C., also on June 8.

Mayor Chelsea Byers said that the city’s presence at World Pride was a part of a larger message.

“With World Pride taking place in Washington, D.C. after many years outside of the U.S. and at such an essential time in our country’s history – it is so important that West Hollywood be there to show our solidarity with queer communities around the world, learn from the security, safety and society building efforts, and assure that West Hollywood Identity festival has a prominent see on the global route of World Pride,” Byers said.

Since the Trump administration took office on Jan. 20, many alterations in plans for World Lgbtq+ fest have occurred. For instance, events had been planned to be held at the Kennedy Center, but after President D

LA Pride 2021

The 2021 Los Angeles Pride runs from June 11-13, and will comprise a reduced schedule of events due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This year, LA Pride will welcome the theme “Thrive with Pride” which is a gentle nod to the previous year and the community’s ability to remain positive, proud, and enthusiastic about LA Lgbtq+ fest 2021. The theme also intends to highlight the fact that thriving is an act of social justice within the LGBTQ community, as confidence, resilience, self worth, and belonging is a reflection of not just surviving, but thriving. This is not an in-person event.

Los Angeles Pride, known as the LA Pride Parade and Festival is over 40 years old and packs in thousands from the local and wider LGBTQ community every June in the city’s gayborhood, West Hollywood. Actually, Los Angeles hosted the world’s first permitted parade advocating for gay rights on June 28, 1970 as a response to and in commemoration of the Stonewall Rebellion on Christopher Road in New York Urban area the year prior.

LA Pride intends to move its annual LGBTQ parade and celebrations out of West Hollywood after more than four decades in the city, the company confirmed Wednesday.

Representatives from Christopher Street West, the nonprofit that produces LA Movement, said the march and festival will be moved from West Hollywood in 2021, but a new location has not been announced.

"There were several factors that led to our decision in moving future Los Angeles Pride festivities. This has been an ongoing conversation within our group for the past year given how large the celebrations have become," LA Pride said in a statement provided to City News Service. "While we are still in a phase of gathering feedback and listening to the community, we felt it was key to notify the city of our intentions given our long standing bond with them as a partner in Los Angeles Pride."

LA Pride officials sent a letter to the West Hollywood City Council on Tuesday that mentioned several other factors as contributing to the decision to move.

"These include construction in West Hollywood Park, the altering demographics of greater Los Angeles, our commitment to entity responsive to the LGBTQIA
