GENERAL

Family Equality Council

Family Equality Council connects, supports, and represents the three million parents who are homosexual woman, gay, bisexual, genderqueer and queer in this country and their six million children. They function to ensure equality for LGBT families by building people, changing hearts and minds, and progressing social justice for all families.

The LGBT National Help Center

The GLBT National Assist Center is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to meeting the needs of the same-sex attracted, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community and those questioning their sexual orientation and gender identity. Their Gay & Female homosexual National Hotline, which began in 1996 and utilizes a diverse group of LGBT volunteers, is a primary program of the GLBT National Help Center. They have 15,000 local resources for cities and towns across the country.

GLOSSARY

The terms and definitions below are always evolving, altering and often imply different things to different people. They are provided below as a starting point for discussion and understanding. This Glossary has been collectively built and created by the staff members of the LGBTQIA Resource Center since the early 2000s.

These are not universal definitions. This glossary is provided to aid give others a more thorough but not entirely comprehensive understanding of the significance of these terms. You may even consider asking someone what they mean when they use a word, especially when they use it to describe their individuality. Ultimately it is most important that each individual describe themselves for themselves and therefore also define a word for themselves.

50+ and THRIVING

This 50+ support group is a dynamic gathering engineered for individuals over the age of 50 who want to explore recent activities, learn fresh skills, and enjoy camaraderie.

Through a variety of engaging events and classes provided by Tidewater Arts Outreach, members can stay active, bring to light new passions, and construct lasting friendships in a fun and supportive atmosphere. It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect with others while embracing personal development and shared experiences.

We hope to provide an accessible place for our community to connect, assist one another, and converse about our successes, difficulties, joys, and struggles as Ace and Aro people.

Currently, we offer one back meeting a month, along with a few social events like board game nights, holiday parties, park walks, museum tours, and bookstore
